Additional Information

Groups tailored for people with communication impairments, provide an authentic, real-world environment where adults can confidently transition their communication skills into everyday life. Depending on the focus, groups are guided by either a Speech Pathologist, Therapy Assistant, or Support Worker, offering a safe space that reduces isolation and fosters natural socialisation.

Group based support accelerates progress toward communication goals by targeting several key areas:

  • Group Conversations: Builds the confidence required to talk and interact with multiple people at the same time.

  • Active Listening: Sharpens focus, conversational turn-taking, and the ability to track shifting topics.

  • Real-World Practice: Offers a functional space to test speech techniques during spontaneous, real-time conversations.

  • Cognitive-Communication: Challenges memory, attention, and problem-solving through tailored social interaction and group games.

  • Supported Confidence: Allows members to learn and refine social skills alongside peers who face similar communication challenges.

Access to Group Programs may come from the following NDIS budgets depending on the purpose of the group and which provider is facilitating it:

- Core: (04): Access to Social, Economic and Community Participation,

- Capacity Building: (09): Increased Social and Community Participation

          (15): Improved Daily Living
